Multi-threading would be a good idea to use for connections with the service providers for instance. But its not straightforward to implement, Sqlite being one of the difficulties indeed. But for which part you want to use multi-threading?
The library use SQLAlchemy for database connections so is in theory database independent, so which some effort you could use another database which support multiple threads.

or you just open and close the DB every time you read / write data. Maybe overkill but that works fine for me.
