@quepol @konklone @leahbannon @rjmajma @NoahKunin @jroo @arowla @ultrasaurus @aaronsnow

Picking this up now that we're ready.

If you're wondering what any other such pages look like, check out the hubs listed here.

should this be /developer or just linked from there?

konklone avatar konklone commented on September 18, 2024

I think /developer will be separate, the Developer program @gbinal is working on.

gbinal avatar gbinal commented on September 18, 2024

Yep - @konklone is right. The two should link to each other but I'll follow up more on the /developer page thread in issue #77.

Picking this up - if the full listing of our repos is causing headaches, perhaps we instead only have a hand-curated list of the projects we most want to invite opensource collaboration.

This can be something that allows a more developer-inviting description, including specific invitations for outside collaboration. I think we could get a v1 of this up very quickly and the projects that are in a place to do justice to outside involvement would need to step up and actually articulate that invitation. @konklone, @leahbannon, others - thoughts?

Actually - a question that comes to mind is how/whether this conflicts with 18f.github.io. My comment above was in part forgetting that these two might not be the same. But maybe they should be.

Right now, it does conflict with 18f.github.io.

I remain of the opinion that our actual GitHub.com org page is the right place to have a list of everything, and that the value to having our own stylized open source face is curation and thoughtful presentation. My favorite example is http://cfpb.github.io. It doesn't matter what domain it's at, but that's the sort of thing I'd love to see.

I'm on the same page.

I'd started this issue before the 18f.github.io conversation took off. My inclination is to close this issue in deference to 18F/18f.github.io#2 and focus our efforts there. @konklone, @ultrasaurus - any problems with that?

Going ahead and closing but can reopen if anyone feels strongly.
