Can you try for now specifying the folder?

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/89luca89/distrobox/main/install | sh -s -- -p ~/.local/bin

This will work without sudo and put it in ~/.local/bin, so you must add it to your $PATH if not already present

You can test using

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/89luca89/distrobox/fix_mount_routine/install | sudo sh

Or

curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/89luca89/distrobox/fix_mount_routine/install | sh -s -- -p ~/.local/bin

I've tested the change, and it fixes your situation, this bug will be closed with the merge request, thanks a lot for the reporting!
