See my comment related to #49 - I think we should provide basic functionality.

Buttons are obviously critical even for that. The getIconType() function does some testing and overrides this.iconType if icon fonts aren't going to work. We could include a call to isUserAgent() within that function and set this.iconType = 'image" for IE8 and earlier.

We could also filter out IE8 and earlier from automatic transcripts.

Not sure about the display issues.

I guess a fundamental question to consider is: If we deliver a player with basic functionality, is that better than what most people will provide as fallback content? We could encourage people to provide good fallback content (e.g., a downloadable link to the video + a non-interactive transcript) then disable the player altogether for IE8 and earlier and let the fallback content through. But I don't really trust users to follow our advice about fallback content.

I've been able to resolve these issues in IE8, basically done in #64 .
