Trying to get it running an hitting this error.

pip install markdown doesnt seem to help.

MARKUP_RENDERERS is a iterable of two-tuples containing a label and a callable which renders the markup. So just

import markdown

show fix this.

We should still have a requirements.txt I think. Maybe just list the submodules requirements.txt. I believe pip and requirements file format understand nested requirements file.
