It's been awhile since I used some of these libs... matplotlib wasn't installed in the relevant virutalenvironment, but defines the pylab library. That said, use of pylab is still actively discouraged and soon to be obsoleted, so migrating things internally from the matlab-analogue pylab api to an object-oriented pythonic model is on the todo.
Fortunately, insofaras core functionality is concerned, pylab use seems to be relegated to time_functions.py, plotting.py, and fourier.py. There're tests and demos that are less pressing, but should be revised.
