I think having fields is enough.
Although 7c9ed3e seems to introduce this as beeing ORd, when I grasp that correctly. Many users would like AND in this setup, I guess.
Either way, we could have a switch for these being AND/OR.
The available fields can be documented in a simple list in the docstring and somewhere in the documentation a link to XML Web Service/Version 2/Search would be nice.

Another (more powerful) alternative to an AND/OR switch would be allowing for + in front of the keys in fields.
All keys having + prepended would be the same like using u" AND ".join. With the additional possibility to only prepending it to some keys.
However, this would be error prone and things like that should be done in the direct query.
I would really like AND being the default: u" AND ".join
