I don't think this is an ideal solution, but decrementing the remaining note counts is probably the best solution for now. The unfortunate side-effect of this is that you may end up rehearsing fewer than requested notes.

  • want to rehearse 10 cards of 100 due
  • rehearse first card
  • anki-cousins detects duplicate and buries 5 notes and decrements counter by 5
  • end up only rehearsing only 5 cards when you could have done 10

Anki doesn't appear to handle this particularly well either. If you have a note like {{c1:hello}} {{c2:there}} and make one card new and one waiting for review (e.g. reposition one to end of new queue and one to review queue), anki will say that you have 1 new card and 1 to review.

If you have "bury until next day" checked, after rehearsing the first card, the other one is buried automatically and the session can end early if you don't have other cards to fill in.

If you don't have "bury until next day" checked, after rehearsing the first card, the other one is removed its queue, anki sees that the count is higher than the remaining cards, rebuilds the queue and unburies the sibling.
