it would be good to have a reference implementation of IMA SDK & Video ad support in the native amp-video tag too.. so that it saves lots of people doing all this custome work, while providing an efficient way of doing pre-roll video Ads

My feeling it was a bit premature to add this to the spec.

Not sure how far we'd get with just this super simple attribute.

I can understand that but one of the goals of this project from publisher's perspective is to have a kind of revenue from the mobile traffic.

Not implementing the video pre-rolls, and moreover not add it, in some way, in the specs, would go in the opposite direction to what everybody are expecting.

@gcovato I'm not saying we aren't going to add it, but it is a complicated topic beyond preroll ads.

Many publishers invested heavily in their video players. You can continue to use them using the amp-iframe tag. Since we have this work around in place I don't see urgency to address this in the format in this phase. I do agree that we should have a great answer long term.

In the meanwhile using amp-iframe would not allow to insert video before 600px from the start of the document and this is an important limitation

@gcovato, we won't be supporting preroll directly in amp-video but we will support it as part of a new player amp-ima-video. You can follow the implementation progress here: #5233 Please follow progress on that issue.
