I'm afraid this is out of scope of this library.

Projections were planned to be read-only collections which keep in sync with underlying collections. The best way to handle this case is only to use projections for constructing UI and if some view is required to modify a collection then it needs to have a reference to an underlying collection directly.

Usually I don't want to pass projections between views because a projection corresponds to a single piece of UI. That way it is ok to create a projection right inside the view:

  initialize: function(options) {
    var projection = new BackboneProjections.Filtered(this.collection, ...);
    this.renderCollection(projection);
    // mutate this.collection and use projection only for UI
  }
});
