Opting to not compress with binary data; savings are somewhere between 20% and 30% depending on how much effort is put into the compression step. The annoyance of dealing with the resulting binary form is not worth the overhead to translate back in the general case.
Will stick to text compression paired with minimization of the raw PGN.
