Added these two lines to functions.php
//localization
load_theme_textdomain( 'bonestheme', get_template_directory()."/languages");
added a language directory to the theme root directory.
I amde some translations but noticed a few textdomains (bonestheme, wpbs)
I also noted that there where various text_domains
from wordpress-bootstrap.

Looking also at some other files I noticed that in library/bones.php there is also a locale setting, ...
