Unless I miss something in the report the destination dir (defaulting to ~/tmp in your WSL environment) usage is intentional, as you can see:

.current_dir(&exec_dest)

.current_dir(&exec_dest)

The reason is that it's currently easier to not only move and compile in the tmp dir, but also for the run command to just execute from there.

You basically execute all cargo command from the tmp copy location, not your original one.
If you really want to execute from your original location, for now you still need to separate compile and run steps.

I can consider a refactoring to use/define a different CWD for the execution of binaries, but this might be tricky, since we cannot pass a different working directory directly to the cargo run command (there is no option for that), and we must set the current directory for calling cargo run to the tmp copy.

I can try tinkering with --manifest-path <some path>/Cargo.toml option, to see if that fixes it.
