Well a pleasure to contribute on this, also really good point I missed that Opal should be added as well. :)

This weekend I will try to continue working on this, but at least now I
have a working version for convert method. BTW it takes a lot of time to
load/compile the script and execute it. Converting Hello World string
takes 8 seconds. Of course I think we can improve because there is a bug
which makes load opal twice. This weekend I will provide a better
performance report to know exactly where the time is spent.

I think this is where we can challenge the Nashorn team. If Nashorn is
supposed to be so good, it should be at least as fast as V8 and IonMonkey.
If not, there is work to be done. It's also a chance to optimize Opal in a
real world scenario. Let's keep pushing.

This weekend I will try to give you a more specific times, to see where it
is spent. If loading+compiling or executing.

I received an email today from Oracle to test Asciidoctor.js against JDK8/9 EA builds. I think we need to add automated performance testing against different environments (browser, Node.js, Nashorn)
from asciidoctor.js.
For reference: https://github.com/webjars/asciidoctor.js
from asciidoctor.js.
With Nashorn I am already developing some tests, you can see the first one
here
https://github.com/lordofthejars/asciidoctorj/blob/feature_189/src/test/java/org/asciidoctor/WhenAsciidoctorJIsUsedWithinNashorn.java
This weekend I am going to work more on this.
BTW first test I have executed it takes 5 to 6 seconds to load and compile
asciidoctor-all.js and 1 second to render Hello World String.
I will keep working on that, in fact nowadays I am focused on this than
resolving some issues, but I prefer to work hard on this topic now because
I have a clear vision of what to do instead of having different fights at
the same time.
