@hbs interesting point, it seems that although it's possible for a miner to set some timestamp that's in the future, this block won't be accepted by the rest of the nodes on the chain as the consensus algorithm contains checks that the timestamp isn't in the future. see here: https://ethereum.stackexchange.com/questions/5927/how-would-a-miner-cope-with-a-huge-block-time

in this case, if a miner moves the block timestamp past t0 for example, Bob won't be able to claim early as he won't be able to submit the claim transaction and have it be accepted by a valid chain.

however, block height is probably still more secure, as timestamp checks aren't actually specified as part of the protocol afaik, so I will probably change it.
