What would be the best way to pass around class objects?

I've added a method to my class and I'm passing in a variable from the controller to the layout using setLayoutVar. This works. Not sure if it's how it's meant to be done.

If you want to setup something for all pages/controllers, you can do so by customizing the AppController::beforeAction() method.

For example, you could check if a user is logged in and redirect them if needed, initialize layout or view vars that might be needed on all pages, etc.
