hmm, if its a browser action there is nothing i can do. But if I change it to be a page action its possible to hide the icon on all pages that support the shortcut key ...

... it seems that the shortcut keys are just too unreliable to depend on them as the only way to navigate, if/when google adds support for shortcut keys to extensions I will definitely make this change (even if its an option)

This should no longer be an issue now that with the support for shortcut keys added to Chrome the popup window has been removed.
