As far as building angularSails itself, that's a different story- your instinct is probably correct

I am super comfortable with grunt ATM. That being said, I plan on taking some time soon to get more cozy with Gulp. It has its own caveats, but is a lot faster. My personal preference is Grunt, since it almost feels like a Makefile whereas Gulp is like writing an application.
