Can you try again after all processing is completed. The application may be trying to assess the videos you open (perhaps two at once) and also be trying to decode the same files for playback. When I've testing on newer computers it can handle all this at once. What sort of computer are you using? Can you opening Activity Monitor and see if the CPU is maxed out when this is happening?

Here's the machine I'm using:
OS: Mac 10.9.4
Model Identifier: MacPro6,1
Processor Name: 12-Core Intel Xeon E5
Processor Speed: 2.7 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 12
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 30 MB
Memory: 64 GB
When I'm testing, all analysis is complete and I don't see any other CPU intensive processes running in Activity Monitor before attempting playback.
Testing with a DV25 QuickTime, I get realtime 29.97 fps playback in the graph view. When I click on the center thumbnail at the bottom of the graph view and the video analysis window pops up, I get slow playback at 1x (with "normal" and "waveform" displayed). QCTools seems to be scaling up the source video display quite a bit in the analysis view by default. If I drag the corner of the analysis window to make it smaller, 1x playback seems to be fine.
With 8-bit Uncompressed video, the playback is slow in both graph view and the video analysis window. I made screen shots (below) to show the active processes and the CPU meter.
