I am working on this; my goal is to get something ready for a PR within the next week or two but this is something I can only work on in my spare time.

I'll take a look at this Paul!

Need to add Windows support. Should just be a matter of porting the relx
batch files, though I'd like to consider porting them to powershell instead.

Looking for this as well, just tried to integrate distillery into a big project to replace exrm, then on the initial test release building found that there was no windows deployment, service registration, etc... Thus, looking forward to this. :-)

Hi Paul,

So it's taken me a while to get a VM stood up to allow me to work on
Powershell stuff on Windows. My work box is Win7 but for some reason
they've totally blocked access to Powershell (which strikes me as a rather
draconian approach but there it is). I think they're worried about
Powershell being a source of trojans the way that VBScript was back in the
day--which strikes me as somewhat silly since it's blocked for developers
too. Oh well.

Anyway, since I've finally gotten this VM stood up, I just want to get the
ChocolateyNuGet packages caught up and then I can really start devoting
some time to PS scripts for Distillery. Thanks for all your patience and
thanks for your hard work on this!

Hi Onario, if there is anything i can help with let me know as this would be really useful for us too

@OnorioCatenacci Awesome! I added the raw relx templates (only modified slightly to use EEx syntax instead of mustache). They aren't yet added to the release as part of the build, but that's pretty easy to add, either from your own app as an overlay, or to distillery itself. Once you have thoughts on how you want to proceed, we can go from there :)

Since the preliminary support for Windows I've added is now in master, I'm going to close this. There is still ongoing work here, via @OnorioCatenacci, but we'll use other issues to track that effort.

Hi Paul,

Sorry--didn't forget about this but I have lost easy access to a Windows box for this sort of work. It's also made it much harder for me to maintain the Chocolatey NuGet package. I'm taking steps to address this but I'm not going to have anything soon.

Will you be down in Orlando next week?

@OnorioCatenacci no worries! I can definitely relate. And yeah, I'll be at ElixirConf, looking forward to it!

hello,

Any update on this issue??

carusso avatar carusso commented on May 4, 2024

This is the one thing feature missing from Distillery that still has me using ExRM. I don't have the Windows background to develop this, but I'd be happy to test.

@carusso I was donated a copy of Windows to help work on this, but I haven't yet had the time to dedicate to it. I'm hoping to do so soon, but in the meantime @OnorioCatenacci has been pitching in and doing a lot of work in that area. If anyone is comfortable in powershell/batch script, and wants to help, ping either Onorio or myself to find out what needs doing.

@bitwalker, are you sure about that merge to master?

I see that the changelog mentions preliminary Windows support, but I don't see any code or changes relating to Windows support other than the old boot script templates (which are never referenced in the actual code, and never get rendered during a release).

There are several commits on the win32 branch that are not in master, and commits by @OnorioCatenacci on his windows_support branch are still on-going.
