I downloaded ImageAlpha and tried moving the slider using cliclick, which worked perfectly (given the window size and position on my screen, it was cliclick dd:644,396 du:730,396).

What exactly were you trying to drag?

I was trying to drag a png file from a Finder window and drop it in the ample space where you can open files in ImageAlpha.

I can see a blinking selection of the file png in the Finder window (so dd:. should work...), then the cursor moves over ImageAlpha window on the left and at the right point, but the file is not dragged.
I was wondering if it might be an activation problem of two different applications (Finder/ImageAlpha), because if I drag a file or a folder between two Finder windows (so the same application) everything works.
I even tried to use some different w:250 thinking could be a delay problem (a couple of times it has been decisive) or write a dd:x,y c:x,y (click over ImageAlpha window) du:x,y … nothing seems to work. And I have no idea, maybe it's right that doesn't work, maybe not.

It is difficult to give a general advice for cases like these, as it not only depends on the applications involved, but also on the foreground application and other factors.

But in this case, you might be right in assuming that activation is a key issue. If you invoke cliclick from the shell and the Finder is not in the foreground, you will probably have to click somewhere in the Finder to get it to the front. I just tried what you described (drag a file to ImageAlpha), and found that it doesn’t work when just using dd and du, but did work when starting with a simple click before the drag down:
cliclick c:1581,233 dd:. du:1013,431

from cliclick.

Thanks, actually I had achieved my goal (with ImageAlpha) by following a different procedure, but your advice is in any case useful.
