This is definitely doable. My original intent was to keep BootLeaf as simple as possible, but more and more people are starting to use it and asking for advanced functionality. Are you specifically interested in using Flickr as an example?

Hi Bryan. Thanks for the positive response. Yes, Flickr would be a prime candidate, in my case specifically Flickr Commons. I did this simple hack a couple of years ago - http://www.whatsthatpicture.com/flickr/commons-map.php?lon=-8223291.1292684&lat=5287220.3380702&zoom=10 - and would like to do a major upgrade, plus include some layers for other cultural heritage collections such as Europeana (http://europeana.eu) and DPLA (http://dp.la) which have rich collections and powerful APIs (disclaimer - I work for Europeana, but this is just a personal project). As a starting point I've written a couple of helpers that call the Flickr and Europeana APIs with a bbox and return geoJSON (at this stage very simple content, but with the intention to expand). The postcodepast.com site is basically my dev site currently and not intended to be public, but it gives a flavour of what I'm looking to do (it also includes a Wikipedia layer, which is working using the bbox as it doesn't interface with the sidebar)

I don't think this functionality necessarily belongs in the BootLeaf template, but here's an example of how it could be handled using the panoramio API: http://jsfiddle.net/bmcbride/4qvdz3xo/.
