No. It's a native add-on. How would you build it if not for node-waf? I'm not counting node-gyp as that's only in the unstable branch right now.

I dunno. I guess I really don't understand how the native Node add-ons work, really. Is there a way to pre-build the binaries, and then deploy them so they work on any Linux machine? That way, node-waf isn't needed?

Sorry if that sounds stupid; I've never built any C++ add-ons for Node, so I don't have a clue how it works. And, actually, I've never built Node from source before either. (gasp)

Any Linux machine? No. I could theoretically support the most common distro/arch combos but I'm not going to because that's a lot of effort for no gain (to me).
