@Lincolngal thanks for checkout out breadwallet. Breadwallet is bitcoin wallet. You can use it to receive and send bitcoin. Bitcoin is a currency, kind of like Euros or Pounds or Yen, except it's global. You get it in the same way as you would get those other currencies, from a currency exchange or by earning or trading for it. If you live in the US and have US bank account, I recommend using circle.com or coinbase.com. These services allow you purchase bitcoin with USD via ACH transfer. Once you purchase bitcoin, I recommend sending it to a bitcoin wallet under your control like breadwallet. You don't really "have" it until it's in your wallet.

@Lincolngal as an example of why you wouldn't want to just leave your bitcoin in an account with a bitcoin exchange, there was a very popular bitcoin exchange in Japan called Mt. Gox that lost most of their customer's funds and went bankrupt. That kind of thing can't happen if you keep your bitcoin directly and securely right on the bitcoin network, using a real bitcoin wallet like breadwallet.
