Ok, following the workaround portion of the guide did help; its just very weird what i'm seeing.

I should mention the respec in the toybox was being attempted on one of the undead companions the lich gets (i think it was Ciar and Kestoglar i was trying this one); and that one had various issues, beyond not wanting to show their character model.
I also tried the respec mod which i got further, but i had a weird issue.

I think i partially figured out what is going on. Attempting to throw gestalt on "below thier minimum level" is the issue.

To explain it seems like it just continually treats the gestalt class as a 1st level class (continually gaining the 1st level over and over) even if it accepts the two classes 1st level; 2nd, 3rd, etc.. will be messed up if that character's default minimum level is above 1.

For example; Seelah, Lann, Wenduag, and Camilla all work fine.
I then ran into the issue again when i got Woljif; it was then i realized if i performed the workaround method described in that guide it worked for levels after his minimum (3).
So for some reason i needed to do the method of level up, level up again, mark that class gestalt, reduce their character level, repeat until correct level. Otherwise every time i would select the 2nd class (for this time i tried doing Witch/Alchemist and it kept forcing me to take the alchemist starting spells over-and-over and despite it showing me having 2 levels in it at 3rd, no features were gained). But the moment i did this gaining one class at a time method, it let me gain both at once at 4th level.

I can't really explain the weird respec issue with toybox/hilor as i can only assume maybe the game itself is just bugged for the undead companions. But at least with the respec mod it seems it works as long as you get them up to that minimum level first.
