excellent issue, I try to see to it. But I am honest, I am a bit confused by the link you mentioned. Should I now use

{{ absolute_url }}/fig/image.png

or

{{ site.url }}/fig/image.png

or

{{ relative_url }}/fig/image.png

Checking other carpentries sites, I see that [](../fig/motivatingexample.png) is used.

I guess it might be possible, but wouldn't ../fig/motivatingexample.png break jekyll serve locally ?

It doesn’t, but I believe that using liquid variables feels better.

@psteinb, I believe prefer {{ site.url }}/fig/image.png is preferred.

The let's stick to {{ site.url }}/fig/image.png. We need to document this inside [lesson-outline.md] or somewhere similar.
