Sorry for the late reply. What I mean is, in case I want to search for "foobar 23", the results begin to filter when I type foobar but nothing is filtered when I type 2 and 3.

Ah, right. That's because xeft ignores search phrases shorter than 3 characters long, that ensures the search results don't change drastically (and slow things down) as you type search phrases. You can redefine xeft--ignore-short-phrase if you don't like that behavior.
