Interesting, @tteofili -

I'm playing with JDK 21. (On master, we are still on JDK 11.)

Note, this is still on Lucene 9.9.1: with -Xmx 31G, got java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: Java heap space, which is different from the GCLocker errors errors described above.

I then bumped up heap to 64G, and the experiment completed successfully.

So... was this simply a JVM issue?

I was not seeing it because I recently moved onto JDK 21, but yes it does seem like a JVM issue.
