Well, domain hunting is not enough. You also need someone to host the mail server, so you can forward the MX records to it.

Edit: For example, my emails are hosted at Google, even though I got my own server which handles the domains normally, because I don't want to maintain my own mail server anymore. It's a huge pain, to say the least.
