If you set the environment variable APP_ROOT_PATH equal to wherever you store your ceramic configuration (defaults to ~/.ceramic) - does that change anything?

I don't have ceramic configuration since I am downloading it directly from npm. Is there any way I can add configuration? or Is there any kind of desktop software like IPFS?

That's a unix environment variable, not something Ceramic-specific. If you're running ceramic from a terminal, you can just do APP_ROOT_PATH=~/.ceramic ceramic daemon

We just put out a new release that should fix this issue. If you upgrade your @ceramicnetwork/cli package to the newest version (2.3.1) then it should start up again. Please let us know if that fixes things for you! @jeff0723
