Works as well. Hope it be included in the upstream soon.

Thanks for the request. This is something we very much want to do, when time allows. Note the wm
(window management) branch in git, which is laying the groundwork for this.

Sweet, I'd love to check out what's done so far.

Back in 2009, David Whetstone sent a limited but working vertical split patch (against 0.6.6) to the mailing list. Unfortunately, it seems to have disappeared from the SourceForge archives, but I was able to dig it up and commit it for posterity in dcohenp/cgdb@b36be01. Also, I managed to rebase it to 0.6.7 in dcohenp/cgdb@0391e9c.
In case anyone's still interested, it's very usable. I'm not sending a push request since I understand the maintainers are working on something much more flexible, but this is a workable solution in the meantime.

@dcohenp Thanks for preserving that patch and rebasing it to 0.6.7! I'm using it and so far so good.

I've been using @dcohenp's patch as well and have been satisfied quite enough!

I'm using this patch now as well. So good!

Any particular reason why this hasn't been merged to 0.6.8
?

Thanks to Michael Sartain, this has been integrated upstream. Great patch.

For those wondering, like me, where this patch is: 4fbf3a6 (not in v0.6.8).

I guess the key to switch to Vertical Split is Ctrl-w? I tried but it is not working.
I'm using CGDB 0.6.7 on Ubuntu.

You have to build from source to see this. I haven't done an official
release yet. I'm hoping in the next 2 months.

Thanks, it's great to see it will be in next release.

Just putting this here for posterity. I'm the original author of this patch. Happy to see it finally get accepted after 7 years 😄
Thanks to @dcohenp for bringing it back from the dead.

Wow, was it really 7 years? That's amazing. The feature is a great idea and a real improvement to cgdb. Michael Sartain did the work to get it integrated into cgdb. The project is relatively active now, so if you have any other ideas, now could be a good time! ha.

Ctrl-W is worked for me. What about configuration parameter?
The following dont work:
:set splitorientation=vertical
:set so=vertical
Thanks!
from cgdb.
You need to use:
:set winsplitorientation=vertical
