We may be able to configure it to ask what kind of switch the template is attached to, and from there either specify distributedVirtualSwitch if that applies or the non-distributed switch otherwise.
You may be able to clone without specifying the vlan if the source template already has the correct vlan in it...

i think you should be able to skip the --cvlan option
