Hi there! It's been a while since I touched the project, but I think the algorithm should work as expected in this case.
When you choose a node in the grid, all the sequences whose current head is not that node have their progress decreased by 1. There are two exceptions, however:

If the sequence's current head is its first element, obviously there's no way to go backwards so nothing happens.

If the sequence's previous head does match the chosen node, the sequence's progress does not advance but it also doesn't decrease.
The second situation should cover the example you gave, but I'd love to be proven wrong if you can send a video solving the minigame itself.
