Same error here when trying to renew any key after upgrading to 2.0.1 (Debian's current package version). There may be some issues with the upgrade process to 2.0's database format. This is dangerous if the older database is no longer available. I am not sure if an updated database can be fixed.

Since I gave the database a password, the error has disappeared.

in my case I re-opened the old DB and didn't set a password when prompted as part of the migration. Now my old certificates can be renewed.
After opening the DB (without setting a password) I was able to set a password afterwards and everything appears to still work…
