You need to copy just the filetypes.* files inside the filedefs directory into the ~/.config/geany/filedefs directory (ie. don't copy the whole directory/folder).

Also, is it related to this maybe?

Otherwise I'll need more info to help like Geany version, Ubuntu version, URL of which "download" you got from Github and such.

Cheers

Did you get it working?

hello,

I might have the same problem.
I moved all the oblivion2.conf, .. and such in the ~/.config/geany/colorschemes/ folder
but the View>Editor>Color Schemes is empty

Geany 1.22

Is the Color Schemes selection dialog completely empty or does it show Default and Alternate (alt.conf)?

Nothing

codebrainz avatar codebrainz commented on August 23, 2024

That's weird, it should at least show the Default and Alternate since those come with Geany itself and are stored in system/install directory as opposed to your home directory.

Which OS/distro are you using and how did you install Geany (ie. from source, .deb, windows installer, etc.)?

hello

I have compiled it from the tar.gz (http://www.geany.org/Download/Releases)
I686, Xubuntu 12.4
Thanks for help

Can you paste the messages in Help->Debug Messages after you have tried opening the View->Editor->Color Schemes dialog? Also are you getting any syntax highlighting (ie. the default theme) at all?

Another thing could be some permissions/paths issue. Which prefix did you use for Geany's ./configure script (default is /usr/local if not specified) and do the permissions on the files/directories in ~/.config/geany look alright? Also do you have some other Geany installed (ex. from a repo package in /usr prefix), if so you could try to uninstall it.

.... stupid me... :)
the old version shows one more submenu for View>Editor>Color Schemes (> a list of styles)
But in the 1.22 version we should click on this last item 'Color schemes', which will show up the popup window with list of themes, which is what happened in my case...

I'm sorry to bother..
Thank you

No worries, it was changed shortly before the 1.22 release IIRC.
