I just noticed that the most recent update on this repo (3a06778) specifically lists a way to give credit to this lesson that I wasn't using! At the very least, I'll add the Smithsonian version to the listing at https://coderefinery.org/lessons/reusing/,

dear Mike, thanks for notifying and asking! This is really great and motivating to see that this is useful for others.
We at CodeRefinery need to make it clearer and easier how to cite/acknowledge (see also #61). We have been rushing from workshop to workshop and did not yet allocate enough time to work on easier citability.
I am glad that you developed it further. Reusing and sharing is so much better than rewriting from scratch. I would be happy to be a co-maintainer since I am interested in seeing this grow and contributing further. I will also check with @rkdarst.
