As frontend-hits on pageflows are basically single cached html pages, it scales very well.
And yes, we use nginx in front of passenger to serve the rails app.

Is this an cache mechanism of pageflow ? Or do you use an caching server ?

The Pageflow engine uses standard Rails partial caching. We have configured Rails to use Memcached.
