i am not sure.. it seems to work having @ in the key but i am not sure anymore i run into more crashes.. maybe i just need to restructure my data

but my guess is that it tries to put the key in the Config without quotes, which is apparently invalid
the issue is the irc hostnames and other things containing @ which.. worked in json so since hocon is a superset of json i hoped it would work but look nicer.. i guess back to the drawing board

In my opinion, you should avoid using reserved character in key. However, you can use it in value.
It may help you change your data structure.
