No, the topic is avro-based, not JSON. Hence the settings for key.converter and value.converter are set to AvroConverter.

Do I need to change the internal.key.converter and internal.value.converter to something from JSON if the topic's data is avro?

It has to access the Schema Registry for the schema, the problem that it is trying to load the /subjects/[topic]-value from Schema Registry, which returns 404.
