Instead of modifying the entire system's config, the vagrant docs now include vagrant ssh core-01 -- -A

For the ssh -A option to work on OS X, its ssh configuration must be changed to enable it's use. There is no other way to enable it (that I know of). It appears you are confusing enabling use of -A with use of -A.

What version of OS X are you running? I don't believe I had to edit my config to enable this.

I even have the following in my config, but vagrant ssh XXX -- -A still works.

    ForwardAgent no

I'm on OS X 10.9.4.

On my machine, ssh -A did not work until I set /etc/ssh_config 'ForwardAgent
yes'. Here is the original ssh-config and the edited version.
