There is unfortunately no workaround for that. You can use provider-kubernetes to observe any resource and just wrap those two to custom XRD.

Yes, that check was originally implemented as a guard against using provider-helm accessing arbitrary resources. However, now I am thinking this should not be a big problem given it could already be scoped using RBAC.

I would be ok for that check to be removed (optionally or permanently) if someone is willing to open a PR doing that.
