#123 could be relevant here. @turkenh if the team is onboard, I can work on it today so that you'd not have to rebase the code and your design thoughts, which might be affected by this.

Just a data point, we needed to override group and kind (probably version in the future) in certain cases like aws_vpc.
I think we should have Group, Version and Kind(already exists) to the config.Resource struct so that they can be overridden, which will have some implications on how the pipeline works because right now group is calculated before config.Resource comes into picture.
