Does anybody have an insight into this? Several users of my app are complaining about the non-pausing behaviour when switching apps.

Does the same API work on Chrome for Android 53?

I don't know about version 53, but it works on Chrome for Android 60.0.3112.107 (on my Nexus 6P). Here is the online demo if you want to try it: http://booleanoperations.com/descensus2/

Actually, the above online demo only adds a listener for visibilitychange, not webkitvisibilitychange. But when I was putting my Android app together, I tried many times with the prefix and without, with no luck. And as I said, even window.blur and window.focus didn't work either.
