Hi @henryhobhouse, that is odd indeed. I'll see if there's a config from graphql-codegen we can use to keep the field name the same.

A quick update: I couldn't reproduce this in a vanilla gatsby project, __typename is correctly preserved. I'll try again with a contentful starter, but if you could find the time to provide a reproduction repo it would be great!

Perhaps the query used is too simple? Not sure what's going on, but I'd need a bit more help to reproduce this.
