Hmm, which version of Arduino were you using? Which branch? The new master branch (which until recently was "Arduino1") is for Arduino 1.0.x. The old "pre1" branch (which was "master" until recently) will only work with Arduino 0023 and older.
Can you post the verbose output of a compilation? (You can enable verbose output in the preferences dialog.)

For some reason on one of my projects I had to add #include <Arduino.h> and then everything was happy. Dunno why I had to add that. On another sketch it worked fine without.
