This has now been resolved. For the moment, you can get the changes from the "audiofixes" branch here: https://github.com/dapphp/securimage/tree/audiofixes
On average, when the audio files are mixed with a second file and having background noise added, it takes about 1.1 - 1.5 seconds to generate. The audio files are also gzip compressed when sent to the browser if supported by the client.
Soon the changes will be merged into the master branch. Thanks for the heads up and providing feedback. A number of other improvements and additions to audio functionality have been added as well.
