When you add scala files to java project, it obviously does not work - only the highlighting of reserved words will work.
About adding java files to scala project - there are some problems with code completion of calls to scala code, indeed. But java code completion works as it should (for me). I also run Netbeans 7.0, exactly the same build, and scala plugin built from latest source. (In plugins menu, there are about ten different scala plugins - "Core", "Editor", etc, so I am not sure what version that is)
By the way, is that a clean install of NetBeans? Or maybe there are some other custom plugins installed?
And what version of scala are you using? Problems with scala version can easily break down the entire ide.
