Our goal has always been for Hours to be simple and serve the use case that Defacto has, which is to get some insight on how time is spent in projects. To get this kind of insight, it's really not required for anyone to track time by the minute, just a realistic estimate of how time was spent at the end of the day is more than sufficient.

Trying to cram these kinds of features that we won't use will make it harder for us to focus on this and will increase the maintenance burden. We've done this in the past before and ended up not being happy with it.

I get that other people have different use cases where this makes perfect sense, but we're not really looking for Hours to be an all-in-one solution.

This is really not a path we want to go down with Hours. Our goal with the app is to get an idea of where time is spent roughly on projects, it is not meant as a way to track every second of an employee's time.

I don't think adding a timer means you're tracking every second of an employee's time. I think the idea behind this issue is that it makes Hours an all-in-one piece of software where time spent is concerned. For example, instead of having a timer to track time spent as a separate application and Hours separate, you could have the timer as an optional plugin so that a user can start the timer and at the end of the work done, you have an amount of time you can automatically save to a given project. Just my thoughts 🤷‍♀️
