You need to install mercurial in order to use ./update.sh. I should probably make the script a little more informative about the requirement of mercurial. If you do not want to install mercurial, you can download one of the release tarballs, and use use ./configure, rather than ./autogen.sh. The release tarballs can be found under releases, and are denoted in the format of purple-facebook-<hash>.tar.gz.

Right, I figured it out myself. It compiles fine. I can already see it in my Pidgin.

I had to replace

HG=$(type -p hg || exit 1)

with

HG="hg"

Somehow my mercurial does not like '-p'.

You also need libpurple-dev, libjson-glib-dev, if you on Debian.

I guess your /bin/sh does not like type, at least with -p anyways. I'll have to fix up the scripts a bit.
