The item_ids option is optional. The preferred use case is to add the items to your favorites list (in the official TGTG app) and run the scanner. The scanner then automatically scrapes your favorite items.
In some special use cases if you don't want to add one or some items to your favorites you can add the item ids manually with this option.
If you want to use the item_ids option your described method is one possibility. Or you can use the functions in the helper.py. Readme. Though this is some advanced usage scenario.
